Weekly Roundup 24/03/13: All Grown Up

So there was no weekly roundup last week as I had 2 assignments due. Both of which I failed to start until the week before they were due. Yes, I'm a terrible student, I know.

After my sleep deprived self recovered from said assignments, it was time to get packed up & ready to go home to the Powell Cave for my baby sister's birthday and the final stages of holiday prep.

Obviously the biggest event of the week was Sophie's 18th, which took place on the Friday. Still can't believe that she can now legally go out in to pubs and clubs and get herself a drink.
Naturally as the older sibling I was responsible for taking her out to get her first drink, but before that it was off out for the traditional Powell family birthday meal at Simply Blues.
After an amazing meal it was back home for a quick change and touch up and then off the pub!
I think I gave her a good first night out on the town with the help of some of her friends and luckily escaped without too bad of a hangover on Saturday (although the cooked breakfast & Domino's we had probably helped there).

And as for today it has mostly consisted of holiday sorting, aka me pairing down my clothes so as not to pack my entire wardrobe, and the standard Sunday roast.
As I said before, I shall be working on some posts relating to holiday, travel checklists and the like, so stick around and as always thanks for reading.

Ciao for now!

13.

Hey all!
Remember me?
Yeah this is just a super quick post to say that I'm not actually dead, and I'm sorry I've not made any posts in almost a month!
I've just been so crazy busy with uni (which btw is amazing and I absolutely love it!)
But in a couple of weeks I shall be back home and have some time to do some proper blogging.
Not much time or peace to do it here since I live in what has been dubbed the "party flat" (apparently it has a history as one too! haunted by a party ghost methinks).
So yes, watch this space in a couple of weeks time!

Off I go now.

12.

Originally I intended this post about Mum's graduation weekend/Disneyland Paris to be a lot more detailed and photo heavy. But unfortunately due to the fact that the Powell's have had a manic week prep-ing for me to go off to uni I just haven't found the time.

So instead here are a few snapshots and a quick summary of the weekend:

Mum's Graduation.
(l-r. Sophie, Mum, Me)

Honestly the most amazing day. So proud watching her go up and be awarded the First Class Honours degree she truly deserved. Definitely shed some tears!
Ceremony was absolutely amazing, so bravo to the OU for that as well.

Disney Paris.

Although the weather wasn't fabulous it was still a fab way to celebrate Mum's graduation/her birthday/my going away.
And hey there was an upside to the bad weather at the start of the day as you can see.
How often is it you get to say you saw a rainbow over the castle at Disneyland?

Again I'm sorry this post is so much shorter than I wanted it to be, but as I've said I'm now off to uni tomorrow.
I'll be leaving my house at 7.45 in the morning to get down to my accommodation for 9am!
I will of course update on my room, freshers, other uni related things etc (after I settle in of course.)

So next time you all hear from me I'll be living in my new uni digs.
Independent living here I come!

So I'm off to France for the next few days to watch my Mum graduation with a First Class Honours Degree in Childhood and Youth Studies with English Literature from The Open University.
I'm unbelievably proud of the woman, I cannot tell you just how proud!

Now above is The Palace of Versailles, right next to where the ceremony will be taking place.
And we'll also be popping over to Disneyland Paris for a day as part of the festivities (yay!)

This post is really just to say that I'll be away for a little while, and therefore not posting, tweeting, etc.
However I do intend to take an absolute buttload (technical term there) of photos/do a tonne of exciting stuff, so expect a big ol' blog post when I return.

Au revoir !

9.

So had a family day out at Bluewater Shopping Centre.
Picked up all sorts of bits; some that I went out looking for, some I didn't.
Always the way really :)

The Good Stuff...

My Lush purchases: 3x Marilyn & a sample of the King of Skin body butter

Disney store reusable tote and Tangled choco lollies (I'm secretly 5)

My single egg poacher from Lakeland along with all the catalogs!

Fred & Friends flamingo "Tropsticks" purely because I cannot use real ones to save my life and well, these were on sale :)

Plus the October issue of Vanity Fair with Angelina Jolie on the cover. (I have a bit girl crush on her).

Legs are absolutely killing though, after all the walking about we did!
So I'm going to sit downstairs with a nice glass of wine and watch last nights episode of Suits.
Which by the way is an excellent show. Plus it's got lots of good looking men in suits which is always nice ;)

TaTa for now

So this should have been a post showing off my wonderful Models Own haul that arrived this morning, but they got my order wrong so it'll be of a mixed post about me dealing with that instead.

We might as well start with my original disappointment over my Models Own order.
So I, like I'm sure a lot of other bloggers did, took full advantage of the 50% off sale code and went a bit mad on the site. (Although my £13 discounted order is nothing compared to the £120 some were spending!)
I eventually placed my order after a few failed attempts due to site issues, and waited for it to arrive.
And today it did. Obviously I hurried to open it, only to find that instead of the Buff Pink I ordered I had been  sent a Snow White polish. Not impressed.

Obviously I went straight to my email and sent them a polite yet firm complaint about my disappointment.
I was actually very pleased to receive such a quick response, in which they offered to send me a replacement Buff Pink as well as asking me to post back the wrong item (the Snow White polish).
I then replied to this asking if I could get my postage refunded as sending back the polish would come at a cost to me and also enquiring as to when I could expect my new Buff Pink.
I got a reply back a short while after telling me to keep the Snow White as their apology and that my Buff Pink is on its way! Needless to say I was pleased.

So that has now been resolved and my replacement Buff Pink should be with me in a few days. (I'll be sure to make a post when it does.)

From left to right my Models Own order:
              • 3in1 Base Coat, Top Coat & Gloss
              • Snow White
              • Nail Art Pen in Black
              • Coral Reef
              • Jade Stone

Now completely off the topic of Nail Polishes - My Sister got her GCSE results yesterday.
She did so well and I am soooooo unbelievably proud of her for it.
She got the grades she needed to get into her Sixth Form and to do all the subjects she wanted for A-Level.

Although now I do feel bloody old, I mean my baby sister is doing her A-Levels for crying out loud!!

7.

Just a brief post today all about my catch up date with one of the besties who just got back from holiday.
We went out for a Nandos (which I have been craving for what feels like forever!) and then saw the Inbetweeners Movie.

Quick look at what I wore for the occasion:

Striped top, light skinny jeans, and my vans.

Now onto dinner & a movie! (See what I did there? Ha. I'm terrible.)

The yummy meal I had at Nandos. I actually love peri-peri sauce so much.
(So much in fact that I went and bought some for home. Mmm spicy goodness here I come.)

Even though we were both stuffed after eating lots of chicken, we still made the obligatory trip to Wilkinsons to get cheap pick n mix. (Stuff paying Odeon prices!)

The film was absolutely hilarious. Like the whole cinema was chuckling away pretty much the whole time.
A fair bit of the humour was obviously very crude, which as anyone who has ever seen the Inbetweeners would know is standard. But still, definitely the funniest film I have seen in a while!

And now after a lovely day out with a friend I am sitting at my laptop stuffing my face with leftover sweeties making myself feel sick.

5.

Lots of stuff to talk about today! Been rather busy.

Well we might as well start with what I wore as I went about my business today...

(I apologise for the quality, using my iPod as camera was out of battery)

My first stop of the day, at the ridiculously early time of 7.45am was a trip to see Dr B, my doctor (obviously)
about a persistent sore throat/cough I've had. Got to make sure I'm well for uni and all that.
Now I do love my doctor, and being the lovely man that he is he gave me a full checkup as well since I knew I would be off to uni.
Although he did say something funny about my weight (apparently my bmi was a bit on the fence between normal and underweight or something), about how I should be sure to have plenty of dairy and cheese so I can be a strong mother to my future children. Although totally bizarre, It did make me laugh.

Anyway I got given clean bill of health along with some basic antibiotics to deal with my sore throat/cough.

After that it was off into town to pick up, believe it or not, MORE stuff for uni!
I swear I'll never remember it all.

Along with all my uni bits and pieces I also picked up a new book for myself (just finished One Day by David Nicholls, and I totally recommend it as it's absolutely wonderful) as well as a new 3/4 sleeve navy striped tee.

New book. Delirium by Lauren Oliver.

And new stripy tee (it's navy even though it looks more like black in this photo)

Now the bit I'm actually the most excited about sharing. While we were in town my dad phoned up to tell my some very important news...

THAT MY UNI ENROLMENT PACK HAD FINALLY ARRIVED!

Such exciting times! What was even more exciting however is that a couple of hours ago I got my email from accommodation confirming that I have somewhere to live!
Apologies for all the exclamation marks but I'm just so excited about everything. It's like it's all real now that I'm enrolled and know I have somewhere to live.

Ohhhhhh less than a month until I go!!!

4.

So I really haven't done a whole lot today apart from attempt to clean/sort/pack my room in preparation for going off to university.

However I did make a brief venture out to McDonalds with my Dad and sister (Sophie in case you were curious) for some dinner. Which was then followed by a trip to PC World where I picked up this:

A alarm clock/ipod dock thing!

This one was perfect because it does exactly what I need it to, and is not too gargantuan in size.
It's an XtremeMac Luna Voyager alarm & audio system and it was nicely priced at £23.99.

Now because I've had a very boring day "cleaning" and since I was playing around with photos anyway...

1.

So today I popped into town with my mother, originally to exchange some bits.
But it turned into shopping for some of my uni stuff.
Since it was a nice warm sunny day, I decided to wear my little black patterned tea dress with a skinny belt round the middle.

Now onto what I (or rather my mum & dad) bought:

DSCF0933

So we've got; an iron, a 12 piece teal dining set, a spotty laundry bag, 2 teal cups...

DSCF0927
...and a clothers airer.

Contain your excitement please!

While being rather boring essentials purchases, they did all come to under £40.
iron - £5
dinner set - £12 (reduced from £20)
laundry bag - £4
2 mugs - £2 (£1 each)
clothes airer - £14

Although there is still lots more to get, picking up these first few bits has really made in sink in that I'm leaving home in a little over a month.

Time for introductions

So my name is Robyn, I'm 19 soon to be 20 in October.
I live in Southend-on-Sea, Essex (I promise I am nothing like the girls from TOWIE though!)
However as of September I will be moving to the not to the not too long distance Medway, Kent for university. Something I am both nervous and yet at the same time terribly excited about.
I would like to say I have quite a varied set of interests.
I enjoy film, music, television, gaming (from an early age I remember watching my dad play Tomb Raider II which started me off really) and I'm currently trying to get myself back into reading regularly.
I do also love some of the stereotypical girlish things like beauty, hair & make-up, nail varnish/nail art, shoes, clothes, as well as a nice bit of celebrity gossip. Oh! And food. I do rather love to eat.
I'm a pretty relaxed, easy going person that enjoys a night out with friends just as much as she enjoys a night in with the family.
I also adore Disney and everything about it. Just wanted to add that since I feel it's important.

I shall end it here, as I now feel I'm rambling...
But I do intend to try and update on a weekly sort of basis.
Here's hoping you will read it and enjoy.
